Without sports betting, Atlantic City casinos expect nothing "Super" out of this weekend

Harvey Perkins, a casino analyst, said sports betting would be another amenity to help the struggling Atlantic City market compete with rival gaming halls in surrounding states. On the casino calendar, Super Bowl Sunday could become as popular as the three-day Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend if sports betting is legalized, he added.

"It could one day possibly shadow the King holiday weekend," said Perkins, executive vice president of the Linwood-based casino consulting firm Spectrum Gaming Group. "It could draw potentially more visitation than that kind of three-day weekend in January.

"It wouldn't be Vegas proportion because of the size of the Vegas Strip and the number of sports betting outlets there, but it would be substantial in terms of betting handle," he continued.
